ABSTRACT

In many cases, it is impossible to test an entire population, such .as all pilots with between 100 and 1,000 hours of flying experience. Statisticians understand these limitations and have calculated revised formulae so that inferences can be made from a subset or sample of the population. Therefore, it is not always necessary to locate an entire population of pilots in order to derive meaningful results concerning their behaviour. These revised analytical techniques are referred to as inferential statistics and they are often the most meaningful and useful statistical analyses available for social science data.
