ABSTRACT

Although aviation is a challenging environment, historically it represents one of the fmest examples of a cooperative endeavour between humans and technology. From navigation to the structural components of aircraft, there have been consistent, significant improvements in the efficiency and accuracy of aircraft systems. However, there is one element of the aviation system, the components of which have remained relatively stable throughout this revolution.
