ABSTRACT

Qualitative data usually take the fonn of 'words', rather than 'numbers' and have the potential to yield significant infonnation for researchers in tenns of the descriptions of events that occur within specified environments (Miles & Hubennan, 1994; Strauss & Corbin, 1990). Until relatively recently, the application of qualitative data analysis has been restricted to disciplines such as anthropology and history. This was due to a combination of factors, most significant of which was the view that qualitative analyses lacked the methodological rigor necessary for more scientific endeavours.
