Thecontinuinggrowthofairtrafficgoesalongwiththedemandforsteadily increasingtheperformanceoftheentireairtransportationsystem,intermsof safety,capacity,economy,andenvironmentalimpact.Amongthemostsalient challengesimposedonairports,airlinesandairtrafficServicesistheneedto providethenecessarycapacitytohandletherisingnumberofflightsworldwide. Highertrafficdensitymeansthatsafetyhastokeeppaceaswell.Theriskof incidentsorevenaccidentslikeaircraftcollisionsintheairoronthegroundmust beminimisedfurther.Thishastobedonewhileconsideringeconomicefficiency andenvironmentalissueslikenoiseandpollutionaswell.
