Safetyinaviationisnotonlydependentontechnicalsystemsbutalsoreliestoa highdegreeonefficienthumanfactorsmeasureslikepsychologicalselectionor CRMtraining.Suchselectionandtrainingeventsaresystematicallyintegratedin thepersonneldevelopmentschemesofairlines,airforcesorairtrafficcontrol organisations.Theyrequireconsiderablebudgets.Therefore,humanfactors measuresmustbepreparedforacost-benefitassessment.Thischaptergives informationonactualcostsofselectionandtrainingofcommercialpilots.Costbenefitanalysesarepresentedwhichshowthatavalidaviationpsychology selectionofapplicantsleadstosubstantialsavingsbyavoidinginvestmentsfor studentsIpilotswholaterfailintrainingorlinechecks.Forairlinestheannual savingscanincreasetosumsofsomemillionEUROs.
