ABSTRACT

Assessment centres have come a long way since their early beginnings during the Second World War. Much research has been conducted which has led to an increase in use and an ongoing refinement of the whole technology. This chapter reviews some of the more recent developments as well as looking to the future. We look at the dramatic increase in the use of technology, some relatively new assessment centre ingredients, the ongoing debate around construct validity, the heightened emphasis of equal opportunities and diversity, and the implications of running centres in different cultures.
