ABSTRACT

This modern progressivist understanding of time sees it in linear and homogeneous terms, a continuous movement from past to future, in which the present is understood only as transition from past to future. Transience and qualitative difference are suppressed in favour of continuity. Eschatology on this progressivist model can only be the future of the temporal process, so that we are related to the eschaton only via the temporal process that has still to unfold between now and the eschaton.
