ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of the book. The book focuses on specific emphasis upon problems of gender-based persecution. It explores some general comments about the category of female claimants, and then looks to a literary representation of obstacles to constructing a productive other with reference to Ariel Dorfman's play "Death and the Maiden" and to methodologies from the domain of "outsider law". The book also focuses on how a literary rendition of these same problems functions, rather than recalling previous discussions. It then focuses on how storytelling can convey critical concerns, and how certain theories can help elucidate the power of these stories, in this case, the story of "Death and the Maiden". The category of female claimants is important to the degree that it is treated as such by the body involved with determining the validity of the claim.
