ABSTRACT

This book began with a reminder of what clients say about social workers. A strong theme in their reports was a preference for social workers who appeared clear about what they were doing and why they were doing it, and social workers who could say where they were going and how they were going to get there. Such clear thinking appears only when thoughts are explicitly arranged around a guiding theory. However, there is a second tier to the argument.
