ABSTRACT

An introduction to landscape design can never hope to be a full account of every aspect of the subject, as then, by its very nature, it would no longer be an introduction but instead a series of rather laborious, dry and crusty volumes, the sort that end up as shelf llers. An introduction should be a vehicle that provides a fast route into the subject, painting the broader picture and providing a framework of knowledge. By understanding this framework, the reader will hopefully be better placed to assimilate, interpret and use eectively any new detailed information encountered. is book is therefore like a large-scale map, a location plan, portraying how the subject ts together as a whole, providing a sound working knowledge of the basics.
