ABSTRACT

Much of the focus of air transport has concerned the provision of international services, on which with relatively few exceptions regulatory controls continue to have a major impact. This chapter provides a listing of 30 representative countries from around the world showing both the date each began to deregulate their domestic air transport markets and whether or not the process is now complete. The failure of flag carrier VIASA and the country's weak economy were major factors with respect to Venezuela's supply situation. International airline markets have also been subject to liberalisation of the economic rules controlling them. However, only one region to date has been able to achieve the full deregulation of its air transport services. Of the top ten international city-pair markets, five involve London and three Singapore. The largest route in terms of seats supplied however, is Taipei - Hong Kong.
