ABSTRACT

The authors have learned a respect for proper defensive tactics because of their experience as a personal protection specialist (Williams) and as a police officer (Waltrip). Just as a lack of proper tactics on the street can cost a police officer his life, a lack of proper defensive tactics can get a crewmember injured on an aircraft, or much worse. The proper use and implementation of tactics can save an officer's life, as it did for Waltrip when he was a street cop. It is hard to quantify such a claim, but since he is alive and co-authoring these words, he did something right. Because of our life's experiences, we have concluded that effective defensive tactics used by erewmembers will save lives.
