ABSTRACT

Air cargo shipments mostly comprise high-end products with a great deal of emphasis placed on timely delivery. As well as coordinating various activities among all agents, it is extremely important that information technology (IT) meets the needs of shippers, buyers and air cargo service providers in tracking and tracing the safety, status, location and delivery time of the shipment. Small and medium-sized logistics agents in Hong Kong are slow to adopt IT solutions. One may consider constructing a web-based platform where third party agents can engage in all facets of process design on-line, thus managing the shipping process through better coordination and collaboration between agents. The Hong Kong Government is now at the planning stage of design and implementing an information exchange platform, called the Digital Trade and Transport Network, for the entire logistics industry. The e-Logistics network will provide a virtual platform for agents in the air cargo logistics industry to collaborate online.
