Figure 6.1 compares the best estimates o f gold output in the two regions (see Table A in the Appendix, for the actual values). The
pattern is similar: a year o f learning, exploring, and positioning
resources, followed by several years o f much higher production. A
production peak is reached w ithin four to six years, from which a
gradual decline begins.
