ABSTRACT
Drugs and alcohol cause impairment of performance due to effects on concentration, attention and motivation; but also, perhaps more importantly, due to changes in reaction times and ability to make rational judgements. The overall effect is to reduce the employee’s efficiency and productivity, and consequently to adversely increase personal or company liability. The aim of workplace drug testing or any employment drug-testing programme is to ensure the health and safety of employees at work and the public at large.
