ABSTRACT

Much has been said in earlier chapters about the role of the TAPin Electronic Libraries (eLib) project in facilitating the changes in culture afforded by new information technologies and networks. Essentially, TAPin worked with higher education (HE) librarians to develop and promote professionals confident in the exploitation of their skills in information provision and the opportunities that were provided to support their IT development. Although TAPin was working with individuals in the six university libraries involved, it needed to take into account the cultures that prevailed in each of the universities, libraries and subject departments. The threats and opportunities that were present for the librarians had to be managed within the context of these cultures, which could be radically different even within a single university.
