ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the roles of several black economists. It focuses on black economists because little, if any, significant work has been produced on black economists. Economic theory shapes every aspect of our lives, yet it seems so esoteric, abstract, and far-removed from our everyday lives. The chapter also focuses on Africa's contribution to economic theory and is intended to highlight the achievements of African scholars who have received little credit for their work, and highlights the significant scholarly role that Africa played in the birth of economic science. It explores the contributions of notable African scholars. The chapter also focuses on the philosophers, mathematicians and theologians/scholastics. It provides a brief description of each of these individuals, beginning with biographical information and scholarly contributions; with a focus on those contributions that are long-lasting.
