ABSTRACT
Writing about women's citizenship in South Africa is exciting as well as challenging. Having one of the most revered constitutions in the world that guarantees civil and political rights as well as access to socio-economic rights easily creates the impression that gender equality is strongly enforced and that it remains on the political agenda.
