ABSTRACT

I had a nice letter from Austen who felt I think a little conscience stricken at having so vigorously douched his brother with cold water just at Christmas time. As he has withdrawn all opposition to the Highbury scheme I regret nothing that I have done and have had a further communication with the Lord Mayor who replies obediently that he will see that all my suggestions are faithfully carried out. Meanwhile I have written a very nice letter to Austen to explain that I still want his help in political matters. I shall write to Mary today and tell her a little of why I want the Highbury memorial.
