ABSTRACT

We had a pleasant if not a very exciting party [in Yorkshire with the CunliffeListers]. Philip’s sister Mrs Hannay known to the family as “Toto” and her husband we met last year and liked. … Jackson, now a Rt Honble, and George Bowyer who was at one time Philip’s P.P.S. were the other guns in the party which was made out with local people. Bowyer is now a whip and gave a very good account of the party in the House. He confirmed my own belief that they ended up feeling quite happy over R. & V. and generally that they are in a wonderfully contented mood. Indeed it is a remarkable fact that in spite of our huge majority we are the most united party in the House.
