ABSTRACT
Georges Perec's Things was published as Les Choses in France in 1965, and was translated and published in English in the 1960s, but in an edition which was not issued in Britain. It was reissued in a new translation by David Bellos in 1990, but for twenty-five years had been more or less unobtainable in English. lt is, then, one of those books whose influence is considerable, even among those who did not have a chance to read it in their own language.
