ABSTRACT

The term amenity grass is the correct name for those expanses of coarse greenery in parks and recreation grounds where we Brits love to sprawl, to kick balls around, to gorge on sandwiches and pop, to fly kites, and generally to enjoy the feeling of open space in our otherwise indoor lives. Amenity grass is a facility provided by parks departments for the benefits and enjoyment of all who use the open spaces. Within reason, and provided our activities cause no permanent damage to the amenity, we can all enjoy the facility in our own ways.
