ABSTRACT

Services need to be designed in terms of steps and decision points. The aim is to map out a process. That includes taking account of the parties to the process – for example, the client and the service agency:

The sequence of activities, represented by boxes, defines the natural and physical flow of work. Links develop the dependencies. They are ‘hard’ constraints that describe technical dependencies, not ‘soft’ constraints that are merely convenient.

The outputs of activities are deliverables. They are represented as arrows going out. Inputs are arrows going in. Diamonds are decision points and the circles are endpoints.
