ABSTRACT
However, for most Chinese students who have been used to a traditional teacher-centred lecturing pattern of English, it can hardly be imagined that only being aware of the importance of independent English study ability may result in their prompt action to do so self-consciously and automatically. On the contrary, they are more likely to lose their interest and self-confidence in studying English simply by the pressure which inevitably arises from the new situation. There is no denying that interest is the best teacher, while confidence is the source of success, so we are reasonable to worry about the prospect of our English teaching in the near future.
