1 INTRODUCTION
Bartolomeu Cid dos Santos was born in Lisbon at midnight and ten minutes of the 24th of August 1931, son of the doctor João Afonso Cid dos Santos and Nazaré Vilhena dos Santos. According to his sister Alexandra, his parents decided to call him Bartolomeu because he was born on the day of St. Bartolomeu (Sampayo 2010).
