ABSTRACT

'Critical thinking is self-guided, self-disciplined thinking which attempts to reason at the highest level of quality in a fair-minded way. People who think critically consistently attempt to live rationally, reasonably, empathically. They are keenly aware of the inherently flawed nature of human thinking when left unchecked. Critical thinking is a valuable skill to learn for university study as we need to be able to subject the ideas, opinions, arguments and sources we come across in our reading to scrutiny. critical reading and thinking is the ability to subject ideas (written or otherwise) to:analysis, criticism, evaluation, interrogation, questioning, healthy scepticism. Before approaching the challenges of academic analysis, one way of approaching and practising critical thinking is to think about scams and satire. Testimonials are often viewed as convincing as they provide a seemingly impartial human touch. If the researcher(s) adopted a purely theoretical approach it is worth interrogating the validity and applicability of these theories.
