ABSTRACT

Sounds are made when an object vibrates. The vibrating object knocks into the particles of air around it and these particles knock into the particles next to them. Different sounds cause different vibrations and these are sensed as different sounds by the structures in our ears. The author shares that the children should be encouraged to feel the materials and observe them closely, and to describe what they observe. The important skills here are choosing and testing and then improving upon an idea so give them plenty of time to try different materials. The author also suggests that talk all the time about the materials and why they have selected a particular one. Encourage the children to feel the materials and observe them closely, and to describe what they observe. One or two of the children will notice that their actions make the levels go up and down and start making noises to test this out.
