ABSTRACT

Snow is made from frozen, solidified water. It is cold and can feel wet to the touch. However, many young children connect snow with Christmas rather than winter so we have to be sure to tackle this misconception. The children were asked whether it looked like real snow. However, for a whole class activity the different snows were made in advance where a tray of each snow was put, ready made, on tables for the children. The children were also asked what would happen if they went through and got wet and cold, then they would not be able to climb out etc. Another point in this chapter was explained that if we run onto the ice, and fall through it they would keep going forward and get stuck under the ice. The temperature was tracked with the children to show how cold it must be for ice to form.
