ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 introduces the book. It describes the objectives in rethinking the understandings that are evident in current sports-related integration policies and programmes, and the role of key concepts and perspectives from migration studies in this rethinking. Former publications on the topic are reviewed along with the book's contributions to research on sports policy and development and research in sports, race and ethnicity. Further, the grounding of the book in case studies of the author and other researchers from North-Western European countries is outlined and discussed.
