ABSTRACT

Methods of recruitment can be grouped as: contact through current employees; contact through computer supplier; contacting applicants for previously advertised vacancies; contact through specialist recruitment agencies; advertising in trade and technical journals; and advertising in national journals. This method of recruitment is worth taking some trouble over, and it should be remembered that staff are likely to take action in recruiting if the task is made easy for them. Any plan for recruiting trainees to the data processing department must allow adequate time for internal advertising to the organisation's own staff. In addition to the recruitment of graduates and school-leavers, our manpower plan indicated a need to recruit a trainee with business or administrative experience. Various methods of recruiting experienced data processing staff are available, but, as has already been indicated, any tapping of the sources may give rise to considerable trouble if we begin the operation without being entirely clear about the skills and qualities we require.
