ABSTRACT

When Vallette took away the Mercure drama criticism from Leautaud in 1920 and shunted him off to what he hoped was the backwater o f the ‘Gazette d’hier et d’aujourd’hui’, the voice o f Maurice Boissard was by no means stilled. He was too well known, too stimulating a commentator to be silenced. Or at least, that is what other editors thought. Almost immediately Jacques Riviere o f the Nouvelle Revue Francaise invited Leau taud to revive Boissard in his pages.
