ABSTRACT

Throughout his varied career, Charles Moran (1936–2015) demonstrated that his university citizenship was never constrained by departmental and institutional boundaries but extended across disciplinary divides. This explorative and collaborative spirit was reflected in the diversity of his work. He published widely on issues related to teacher training, the National Writing Project, and Writing in the Disciplines, co-editing (with Anne Herrington) Writing, Teaching, and Learning in the Disciplines (1992) and Genres across the Curriculum (2005). Yet he also retained ties to the field of literature, co-editing the NCTE volume Conversations: Contemporary Critical Theory and the Teaching of Literature (1990) with Elizabeth Penfield.
