ABSTRACT

A literature review should refer mainly to research articles published in journals. For

each article, prepare a note card with an identifier (such as the last name of the first author)

and notes on relevant aspects of the study. Then, try sorting the cards into groups. Depending

on the topic, there can be more than one effective way to group them and some studies might

fall into different sets of groups, so try grouping and then regrouping, making multiple cards

for individual studies when needed. For instance, here are some ways they might be grouped:

(1) studies reporting that Population A is higher than Population B, (2) studies re-

porting that Population B is higher than Population A, and (3) studies with indeter-

minate outcomes .
