ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 explores another crucial topic, namely, a set of possible quagmires faced by clinicians in the treatment of psychological trauma including the attempt to use the DSM-V, the use of talk therapy alone, and the role of medication. While each of these can accomplish a great deal in helping a client improve her life, this chapter explores how the aforementioned strategies fall short when it comes to healing trauma. As such, it provides the reader with a segue to Chapter 3, “Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).”
