ABSTRACT

The formal definition of the first factor, the Application of Specialized Knowledge and Experience, reads: the process of drawing upon or applying techniques or acquired information. It is particularly important in using this factor to remember that grading assesses the job requirement—the knowledge and experience needed to solve problems. Very broadly, specialized knowledge in the professional/managerial range of jobs can be classified under three headings: theoretical knowledge, acquired information and technical or professional skills. In any case, the permutations and combination of different types of knowledge and experience are so numerous that they cannot be fully reflected in each actual grade definition, but must form part of the training of a skilled assessor applying the system. The definitions of grade levels used in any organization will naturally have to be adapted to reflect the main requirements and types of work in that concern.
