ABSTRACT

A great deal of time can be saved if the member of staff is asked to produce an outline of his job for approval and, if necessary, amplification by his chief before he is interviewed by the assessor. The assessor should have briefed himself before any interview on the organization and functions of the department concerned and on the outline of the duties. At the interview the assessor should first agree with the holder the main parts of the job and these can then form the headings which will appear in the job sheet. Taking each part of the job in turn, he should direct his questions with the requirements of the subsequent analysis in mind. The man management requirement is typical of that in supervisory jobs at Grades 1 and 2 — "ability to carry conviction with and to obtain the maximum co-operation and effort in controlling and administering a group of junior staff".
