ABSTRACT

This chapter presents some basic, but very useful, operations with pivot tables. Pivot tables are most frequently employed to rearrange, regroup, modify, or analyze data appearing in lists or tables. Because of the way they operate, pivot tables may also be used effectively to arrange, modify, and present engineering data from different perspectives. They also offer graphing and charting features that can be quite useful. Creating a pivot table in the latest version of Excel is available from the INSERT ribbon bar, similar to creating a Chart. The chapter provides an example of how to enter the additional data fields W, EER, and Qh into the pivot table. Unfortunately, Excel 2016 has a significant limitation in that it will not allow the user to create a scatter chart of data created using a pivot table. This is a limitation for reasons related to data mismatch between what a pivot table provides and what a scatter chart requires.
