ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the impact of the program on the structural organization of the school system. It includes speculation on the role of preventive endeavors within the larger societal framework, as well as more specific suggestions for preventive programs in the school. All of the changes in the functioning of the target children had impact on the functioning of the school system. The chapter summarizes some changes in the organizational structure of the school and discusses role changes of key staff members that resulted from the intervention. Psychology needs more sophisticated measures for evaluating change in school and home settings. The continued use of college students and other community personnel such as senior citizens, housewives, and high schoolers holds promise as an important human resource. Social scientists interested in preventive interventions in the community are presented with a curious dilemma. Interventions must be carefully selected and planned to ensure that only positive or neutral effects are likely to occur.
