ABSTRACT

This chapter shows how the influences of tourism development on the settlements changes of Tamansari area and analyzes the linkages between tourism development and human settlements on the morphological pattern of the Tamansari area from the aspects of urban form and elements of urban spaces. It outlines some themes and recommendations for regional value enhancement. The morphological changes in Tamansari area consist of the past Yogyakarta royal building artifacts that blend with the community residential environment are unique and potential condition. The meaning of places is formed from physical (spatial) and experiential attributes that also contribute to creating a memory of places. The Tamansari area was originally a royal complex with various functions, including recreation, a worship place, and the kingdom's defense area, and is often called Water Castel. The street structure of the Tamansari area experienced progression that is influenced by the density of human settlements.
