ABSTRACT

Chapter 8 looks at the strategic perspective, that of Vision and the Big Picture, which provide purpose and direction for the project. This is part of the earlystage activities of the project during shaping and scoping, and needs to be recommunicated throughout the project. The Vision provides clarity and understanding about the project aims and outcomes, and should reflect the organization’s own Vision and strategy. The Big Picture provides the context of market and economy. As a result, any project is itself a reflection of commercial realities, the market and the strategic context in which the organization finds itself. We also look at project success criteria and ask the fundamental question, ‘What is “success”?’
