ABSTRACT

The literature review is an essential step in any research project, but its function and significance is often poorly understood or taken for granted. This chapter explores the notion that a literature review provides a much more significant role in shaping and evolving the future direction of a research project by establishing an understanding and critical appraisal of the background context of your research. The aim here is to provide an overview of the process and procedures to help shape the literature review as well as providing guidance to key techniques supported by examples.
