ABSTRACT
Over the last close to 25 years, we have worked with dozens upon dozens of companies around challenges associated with large scale R&D of softwareintensive systems. These companies have experienced real challenges that, at times, risked the very existence of the organization. Some of these companies indeed are no longer around. Others have been acquired and integrated in other organizations. Yet others are shadows of their former selves. Finally, there fortunately is a sizable group of companies that met their challenges, overcame them and grew to be even more successful after battling with these challenges.
