ABSTRACT

For every play or devised piece of theatre one will have a super objective, the essence of the play, the key theme or what as a cast they want the audience to understand from the play. Each character has a super objective which is what they want to achieve over the course of their life or the length of the play. The through action is what the character does to achieve their super objective with the germ being the seed of their character, a label that describes exactly what the character is like. Stanislavski and his students had a super objective and through action for the play and a super objective and through action for each character. This meant they could sum up what the play was really about and the direction the play was going in, while each character had a direction and a sum of all the actions that drove them through the play.
