ABSTRACT
The multi-modal protest narratives belonging to Lepcha activists in Sikkim incorporate ownership, tradition, culture, religion, and concern for the environment. These themes were the cornerstone messages which were repeated, modified and then codified as a narrative template for a protest movement against several hydro-electric projects slated for, and being built on, the Lepcha Reserve – Dzongu – in north Sikkim.
