ABSTRACT

Climate change affects public health through environmental consequences such as sea-level rise, changes in precipitation resulting in flood and drought, heat waves, changes in hurricanes and storms and degraded air quality. Human-induced climate change poses great and growing risk to human, social and biological well-being. Climate change affects social determinants of health- clean air, safe drinking water, sufficient food and secure shelter. Climate change is also induced by human activities due to excess greenhouse gas emissions. Human health depends upon ecosystem products and services such as availability of fresh water, food and fuel sources, which are requisite for good human health and productive livelihoods. Climate change affects life systems on air, water, food, shelter and security. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has called for the adoption of both greenhouse gases mitigation measures and adaptation strategies to address climate change. The WHO provides evidence and supports capacity building and implementations project to strengthen the health system to climate change.
