ABSTRACT

Climate changes undermine human security in the present day and increasingly do so in future. There is a need for systematic, comparative and cross-scale research to enhance understanding of the connections between climate change, human security and violence. Responding to the challenges of climate change impacts on water resources also requires the development of deliberate and context specific adaptation strategies. Agricultural production must be accompanied by concerted action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture to avoid climate change and threats to long- term viability of global agriculture. Many opportunities exist to enhance the role of the food and agriculture sectors in supporting climate change responses with strong links to sustainable development. Climate change mitigation and adaptation actions related to agriculture should be integrated into strategies to help the sector adopt land use options. General sensitive research is needed to better understand the health impacts of climate change in general and extreme events, in particular.
