ABSTRACT

This chapter considers some of the reasons why some people would be good candidates for VBCBC and some people would not. It discusses the indications for VBCBC and then explains its contraindications. The chapter suggests that there are three positive indications for VBCBC. The first relates to the personality structure of coachees, the second relates to coachees seeking help from coaching for their problems and the third relates to dealing with actual or anticipated obstacles to achieving development-based coaching objectives. Cognitive behavioural coaches have, therefore, to decide whether or not to take on people seeking help with emotional and behavioural problems rather than restricting their practice to helping people who do not have such problems and wish to develop themselves. Some people seek coaching for their problems because if they were to consult a therapist or a counsellor for such help then they would think that there was something wrong with them.
