ABSTRACT

The principal fort-city of Malwa, Mandu, 25 km south of the city of Dhar, is situated on a high hillock. Since it is situated on the hill amidst scenic beauty, the Muslim rulers had termed Mandu as Shahidabad or the city of joy, a term that has struck in the writings of later historians. The Emperor Jahangir stayed seven months in this city and has described its unusual scenic beauty during the rains.
