ABSTRACT
The early history of the city of Calicut is still unknown. There is a controversy why the old name Kozikote was given. Even though the description of the struggle between Cochin and Calicut has been written after the arrival of Vasco da Gama at Calicut at the end of the fifteenth century, yet the early history of the city still remains unknown. According to the seventeenth century English travellers the sea came forward to submerge most of the city. They stated that the English factory situated in the middle of the city had gone almost under the water. Here we would see the accounts of some travellers who had seen the old city of Calicut.
