ABSTRACT
In the West, a number of interrelated concepts have done much to shape the prevailing culture – the ideas about property and its constituent parts among them; and nowhere else do you nd such profound and almost fervent concern for these concepts. If one surveys world cultures before the advent of European colonialism and the transfer of Western cultural elements to non-Western societies, the right of individual private property seems to be largely an unknown concept.
